I've never had to restore once and my hosts run better(theoretically) for using it. Much like anything else, I always ensure my data and config backups are current before cleaning the registry, and backup the registry itself before running CCleaner. It's my personal cluster/lab with it's primary purpose being for holding my repository of data and software, and allowing myself to do break/fix learning. Keep in mind my cluster has a whole one user of one being me, and is not responsible for hosting any services to anyone else in the organization other than myself. Each one is constantly stripped down to bare minimums, and any changes get a fresh round of optimization. I'm a bit of a compulsive clean freak when it comes to my OS's.
